If you want a fun way to make popcorn, this bottle popped popping technique works great and is easy to do. All you need is a glass bottle, popcorn, oil, and a microwave oven.
Follow these simple steps and in less than 5 minutes you will have a bowl of fresh popped corn.
In order to make bottle popped popcorn, you will need a microwave safe glass jar with a plastic lid, oil and of course popcorn kernels. We use 64 oz. canning jars. They are microwave safe. Just make sure to use a plastic lid.
To start, simply pour one half of a teaspoon of oil and 1/3 cup of popcorn kernels into the jar. We prefer olive oil. Shake the jar around to mix the kernels with the oil. Then put the lid onto the jar. When putting on the lid, don't screw the lid all the way down. You don't need to create a completely sealed bottle. The lid should have a little looseness for air expansion release. Keep in mind that if the cap is not rotated far down enough, the corn may pop out into the microwave oven.
Next, put the jar long side down into the microwave oven and use the popcorn button to heat and pop the kernels. Some microwave ovens may require running the popcorn cycle twice in order to pop most of the popcorn. Just don't run for too long in order to prevent burning.
Once popped, carefully take the bottle out of the microwave oven with oven mitts. The bottle will be hot. You can let the bottle cool down naturally too. If the lid is removed while still hot, watch out for the escaping steam.
Enjoy and eat directly out of the jar, or pour the popped corn into your favorite container.
